AI is everywhere, but how can we make it work for us? Industry is changing rapidly and in the war on talent, we will no longer have enough people to do the work. How can we apply AI to really make it work, and what should we expect from AI in the future. Guided by practical examples, Jeroen will explain how AI fits in the technological picture, what you need to do as an organization to make it work, and where you can, or can’t apply AI to help people work better.

Break-out Keynotes

Software defined Ships: Damen Naval’s Digitalization Odyssey

Joep Broekhuijsen, RDI Strategy Coördinator, Damen Naval

Damen Naval is the Naval OEM in the Netherlands delivering complex naval platforms to its customers. The new generation of warships will have more software defined functionality delivering the adaptability that will be essential for all future naval platforms to enable them to outpace evolving threats and capitalize on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data science and human augmentation. This is a software technology-based transformation and development, attaching more software value to hardware technology. The “software defined vehicles” concept is becoming increasingly prevalent in the automotive industry and will also emerge in naval shipbuilding where we can speak about “software defined ships”. The Digitalization transformation will spread to every aspect of the shipbuilding industry, covering onboard software and hardware architecture design, product development, process development, organization framework, personnel development as well as the supply chain system and business models of the entire industry. There will be difficulties and challenges for traditional shipbuilding companies to claim the software integration role as well as opportunities for new players such as software suppliers and electronic hardware suppliers.

Leveraging AI/ML for Engineering Simulations

Anders Jönson, Senior Manager EMEA Channel & Momentum Management, Ansys

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are affecting just about every part of our professional and personal lives — and there’s little doubt that they’re making our lives better. From earlier disease detection and assisted driving to smart automation and decision support, AI/ML are helping to make us healthier, safer, and more productive. The capabilities of AI and ML are also changing the field of engineering simulation and this presentation explains how better and faster decisions are made possible when these transformational sciences align.
