Model-Based-Definition
Gert Landheer & Martijn de Wet, Senior Technical Consultant, Innoptus
In this session we look at how Model-Based Definition (MBD)/Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) can play an important part in your Digital Transformation journey. The session will start with a brief introduction to MBD/MBE, where we talk about what exactly it is, the value it can bring to an organisation, as well things to consider when planning to implement it. This is followed by a demonstration which shows how MBD/MBE can be applied to enable the digital thread using a specific use case.

How Ansys provides answers in the manufacturing process of a solar car
Using Ansys to optimize the strength and weight of a Formula Student monocoque
Jonas Vlaminck, Head of Mechanics, Thomas Declercq, Head of Marketing & Martijn Camps, Aerodynamics Engineer, Innoptus Solar Team
Pieter van Gaal, Composites & Aerodynamics Manager, University Racing Eindhoven
How Ansys provides answers in the manufacturing process of a solar car
The Innoptus Solar Team is a group of passionate engineering students from the KU Leuven who build solar cars and race them all over the world to showcase the power of green energy. Besides promoting renewable energy & advanced technologies we also want to generate interest in STEM and encourage entrepreneurship. The design of a solar car involves many complex processes. Ansys software offers valuable solutions for all kinds of applications.
Using Ansys to optimize the strength and weight of a Formula Student monocoque by University Racing Eindhoven.
To design the lay-ups of the monocoque for the URE18, Ansys will be used to simulate the behaviour of the used composite. The main components of this composite are carbon layered with aluminium honeycomb core structures. This year, the goal is to fully recreate the simulation, validating it by using experimental data from the previous year, and use the simulation to design a low weight lay-up.
Keyshot VR as part of our design process
Simon Vandoorne, Designer & Dimitri De Martelaere, Managing Partner, Pars Pro Toto
Based on 2 recent cases we will illustrate how we incorporate VR during the development of high-end and complex products. Because of this new approach, we were able to save on prototyping costs, get 1 on 1 feedback from our customers based on a VR model and get valuable user feedback as such.

Get in control with the 0.33mm ⌀ steerable guidewire Redwire
The effect of orthotropic steel on pressure hull collapse by Nevesbu
Arnoud van der Stelt, Project Manager, Demcon
Jack Reijmers, Consultant, Nevesbu
Get in control with the 0.33mm ⌀ steerable guidewire Redwire by Demcon.
The patented steerable guidewire Redwire offers enhanced maneuverability with a one-hand controller and a tip diameter from 0.33mm. It is developed in collaboration between Demcon and Memory Metal Holland B.V.. Steerable guidewires will have a major benefit for navigating guidewires through the human body during operation. By shaping the distal end inside the body, it can easier take turns when reaching complex junctions. This behavior has multiple advantages such as better steerability, reduction of the amount of used wires, decrease of operation time and thus saving lives.
The effect of orthotropic steel on pressure hull collapse by Nevesbu
In general, for steel structures isotropic behaviour is assumed. However, when FE analysis is required to backup experiments it is essential to model the real material properties, and these can differ significantly from general accepted values. Moreover, actual properties as Young’s modulus and yield stress show different values in perpendicular directions.
Keeping the orientation in mind, orthotropic behaviour can be incorporated in pressure hull design. This will be demonstrated for a three-cylinder submarine of the Dolfijn class.
